Manchester United Would Consider Selling Andreas Pereira and Jesse Lingard
Poor Performances This Season
Lingard and Pereira have been poor for United this season. The pair have just one Premier League goal between them in their 2,343 minutes of action in the competition. Lingard has not scored a league goal since December 2018, while Pereira managed just two in the same year.
Despite these statistics, they remained in the starting team for much of the first half of the season. Injury was running riot in the Manchester United squad, and they were the only players of their position available.
Pereira was partnered with now Player of the Season contender Fred during Scott McTominay’s first absence of the campaign, having previously, and since, disappointed in a more natural number ten or right midfield role. While central midfield was his worst position, the Brazilian has hardly had a good game this whole season, and fans have been crying out for his sale.
Lingard has played as an attacking midfielder for most of the campaign, while also trying his hand at left wing. None of these have worked for the Englishman, however. The 27-year-old has spent much of the season coming on as a substitute, and despite having been arguably better than Pereira, he is still not up to a title-challenging standard, or even that of a top-four fight, and is, like the Brazilian, unpopular at Old Trafford.
Falling out of Favour
Recently, the underperforming duo have fallen out of favour with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian club legend has seemingly lost patience with them. With the arrival of new star player Bruno Fernandes giving him more squad depth, he now has the capability to drop them.
Since the arrival of the Portuguese playmaker, Lingard and Pereira have less than 90 minutes between them in the Premier League, and it seems that Solskjaer has finally given in. Manchester United would now consider selling both players, looking to bring in funds for what they hope will be a big-spending summer.
